/Pogled.info/ BSP MEPs Sergey Stanishev, Petar Vitanov, Ivo Hristov and Elena Yoncheva came out with a position in relation to the topic of forming a regular government:
“In recent days, speculations about the negotiation of a governing majority around GERB have been growing. The nature of the cabinet to be proposed – expert or of national responsibility and salvation, or possible other formulas, is a convenient cover for an unacceptable political compromise.
We, the undersigned representatives of the Delegation of the Bulgarian Socialists in the EP, declare our categorical disagreement with any form of collaboration of the BSP with GERB. For years, the BSP’s core identity was built on opposition to the model imposed by GERB. This was precisely the stated justification for participation in the quadruple coalition of the “Petkov” cabinet. Entering now a right-wing government with a previously declared intention to cut social spending would be strange political behavior.
Participating in such a government may be important in order to gain positions for the leadership of the BSP and those close to it, but it will certainly lead to another electoral disaster for the left. Entering into an unprincipled coalition with the right, as a small coalition partner with less than 9% support and only 23 people’s representatives, dooms the possibility of defending key left-wing and social policies.
The way to restore trust in the BSP and the left-wing idea in Bulgaria is through the consistent battle against inequalities and social justice and upholding democracy and the rule of law. Collaboration with right-wing parties in the name of power will be disastrous for the left, for the party and for Bulgaria”.
