/ world today news/ In a telephone conversation, Sergey Stanishev and Kornelia Ninova discussed the MEP’s proposals for horizontal and specific measures to combat the demographic crisis in our country.
“This is the priority of priorities, the new national goal for Bulgaria. They are needed political consensus and horizontal, comprehensive and coordinated solutions in the economy, social and regional policy, health and education. It is necessary to set long-term goals and solutions, with funds provided in the next budgets of the country. Coordinating them is a colossal task, and choosing the Deputy Prime Minister for Demography or the creation of a special structure would be a clear sign of the importance of this topic on the agenda of politicians and Bulgarian society as a whole,” Stanishev and Ninova joined together.
Due to the advanced procedure for the adoption of the budget for 2024, at a meeting of the leadership of the BSP parliamentary group with experts, Stanishev’s proposals were also commented on specific reproductive health measures. Support received the recommendation of the specialists for the introduction of National preventive program for women and men in the 18-40 age group.
Doctors also suggest the expansion of the National Program for Maternal and Child Health to the Ministry of Health with measures for comprehensive maternal and fetal care in pregnant women. This includes a number of modern tests, non-invasive diagnostics and screening. Their total sum amounts to less than BGN 30 million, and these measures would largely solve the problems with pathological pregnancies, the mental health of the fetus and the high infant mortality rate in the country.
The meeting also discussed ideas for providing funds for research preceding in vitro procedures, as well as lowering the age of women who have the right to join the Fund’s programs.
“The PG of “BSP for Bulgaria” stands behind these proposals, we are ready to submit them between the first and second reading in the budget. Demography is an important supra-party problem,” commented Georgi Svilenski and Georgi Gyokov.
The meeting was attended by the deputy chairmen of the PG of “BSP for Bulgaria” Georgi Svilenski, Atanas Zafirov and Ivan Chenchev, the secretaries Irena Atanasova and Deyan Dechev, as well as the former Minister of Labor and Social Policy Georgi Gyokov. The proposals were presented by Maria Divizieva, head of Sergei Stanishev’s office, Radina Velcheva, founder of the “I want a baby” foundation and Dr. Alexander Kobakov, head of the Diagnostic-consultative unit for hypertension at St. Sofia General Hospital.
