BSP has no reason to be proud of this vote – 2024-08-05 11:46:00

/ world today news/ How was the vote of no confidence in the government of GERB and OP not passed, as expected? What are the reasons for the failure of the opposition, etc. “Frog News” asked questions to the sociologist Atanas Merdzhanov, a former deputy in the 38th, 40th and 41st National Assembly and a member of the Supreme Council of the BSP.

The BSP has organized numerous votes of no confidence in the ruling party over the years, but our party has no reason to be proud of this one.

There are several reasons and I commented on them at a meeting of the National Council. The great delay in submitting the vote played a bad joke on us. More than two months passed from the congressional decision to its deposition. The topic of corruption was presented too generally with annoyingly boring and banal facts. This alienated a large part of the citizens who, in principle, show an interest in this otherwise systemic problem in our society.

After all, this democratic tool aims above all to convince and attract more citizens other than the political supporters of the left. And there are many people who are dissatisfied with the actions of the government.

Unfortunately, today’s vote reaffirmed the governing configuration and the government received a new legitimacy.

Listening to the debates, I regret to admit that the citizens did not get the necessary confidence that the BSP can manage the Bulgarian society more convincingly, in solidarity, solidly and stably.

I make my comments now to you with great bitterness. Because there was a lot of steam in the whistle, a lot of allegedly pre-arranged scandals, but in the end we ourselves got carried away and dressed up in explanations, justifications, etc.

When talking about corruption, emphasis should be placed on a specific area, with precise examples, clear facts exposing individual actors in the administration. For this reason, I personally had doubts as to whether this topic of corruption was suitable for a vote.

Primal problems for the left, such as poverty, the lack of reforms in various sectoral policies – this should have been the focus of our attention for the vote.

I hope that the current BSP leadership will seriously consider everything and make consistent preparations for the next discontent. For politics, consistency and predictability are most important. I am not even commenting in this sense on the behavior of Cornelia Ninova on the occasion of the Istanbul Convention.

I also hope that they will no longer take our desire for better work of the BSP as criticism from the position of those forcibly expelled from the party. We are aware that every parliamentary term has a beginning and an end. But when reforms are made, we hope it is for the better. Where is it?!
