Uttarkashi. After the tunnel accident in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand, the rescue operation (Uttarkashi Tunnel Rescue Operation) is currently halted. To ensure the safety of rescue workers, preparations are now underway for a safety canopy inside the tunnel. To enable the stranded laborers to talk to their family members, BSNL has established a landline facility at the spot. International tunneling expert Arnold Dix on the Silkyara tunnel rescue operation said that it could take anywhere from a month to a month to rescue the workers trapped in the tunnel and all 41 people would return home safely.

A senior official involved in the rescue operation said that some mobile phones have also been sent to the workers trapped in the tunnel so that they can play video games. There is no mobile network nearby in the tunnel but consideration is also being given to providing Wi-Fi connectivity. Consideration is also being made to provide cricket bats and balls to the workers so that they can play cricket. With this, the workers can spend their time playing because there is a lot of space inside the tunnel where the workers are trapped. Therefore cricket can be played easily. Earlier, there was also talk of sending playing cards and Ludo to the workers.

In fact, now the officials have focused on two options in the rescue operations of the agencies. The first of these involves ‘drilling’ by hand into the remaining 10 or 12 meters of debris or ‘drilling’ down 86 meters from the top. This may take a long time. Under manual ‘drilling’, the worker will enter the 47-meter portion of the rescue route dug so far and will do ‘drilling’ for a short time at a limited place and after coming out, someone else will start doing the work. This work can start as soon as the piece of drilling machine stuck in the evacuation route is brought out. While heavy equipment for ‘drilling’ straight down from the top of the mountain was taken to a 1.5 kilometer mountain road on Saturday. This route has been prepared by the Border Roads Organization in a few days.
