Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN), Erick Thohir will withdraw the sharia business unit (UUS) of PT Bank Tabungan Negara Tbk (BBTN) from joining the parent of Sharia BUMN, PT Bank Syariah Indonesia Tbk (BRIS).
The joining of UUS BTN is expected to strengthen the position and enlarge the market capacity of state-owned Islamic banks that are now incorporated in BRIS.
“That’s what we hope so that BSI’s position will get bigger and of course stronger, in terms of market capitalization and of course its encouragement for the banking industry,” he explained.
Erick added that in the future BSI is expected to be able to increase the productivity of the Indonesian Halal Industry, which is currently not yet in the top five in the world.
“If we look at it, we are a country with the largest Muslim population in the world. But the productivity level has not yet entered the top five Halal Industries in the world. Therefore, we encourage BSI to go there,” he determined.
Not only annexing UUS BTN, this year the Ministry of SOEs will also accelerate state capital participation through Series A Dwiwarna shares in BSI in the third quarter of this year.
“God willing, Mr. Vice President, I have discussed with the Himbara Directors for this Dwiwarna share, we will make sure it happens this year,” he said.
