The US Senate today confirmed Xavier Becerra as health minister in a party vote. The California Attorney General will thus become one of the leading figures in the fight against the covidu-19 pandemic in the USA.
The Senate also unanimously confirmed retired diplomat William Burns to head the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).
In the Senate, 50 legislators voted in favor of Becerr’s confirmation and 49 opposed them. Republicans said he had little health experience and supported greater federal government involvement in health care and easing immigration policies.
