Brutal mass brawl in the middle of the street – South Tyrol News

Naples – The mass brawl occurred in the early afternoon of July 31st in the center of Naples. When several Swedish tourists who had parked their cars in a paid garage saw that their vehicles were damaged, they refused to pay the full hourly rate of six euros. A fierce argument then broke out between them and the Neapolitan owners of the garage.

The Swedes and the Neapolitans hit each other with fists and baseball bats, under the watchful eyes of shocked witnesses who filmed videos from the windows and balconies of the surrounding houses. One video shows dozens of people – including women – fighting in the middle of the street. A man lying on the ground was attacked with punches and kicks. An unknown perpetrator, however, took his motorcycle helmet and smashed it into his opponent’s face.

Since the mass brawl took place in the center of Naples – near the police station and the town hall square – pedestrian and street traffic came to a complete standstill. Calm only returned after two police patrols appeared. After the brawl, police investigations were launched, during which some recordings from surveillance cameras installed in this part of the city were secured. Videos from private individuals were also analyzed. As was announced the day after the wild brawl, eight people, four Neapolitans and four Swedish citizens, were reported to be at large.

Witnesses to the fight drew the attention of the Green-Left Alliance regional councillor Francesco Emilio Borrelli to the videos on the internet. “Once again, thugs, villains and violent criminals are damaging the reputation of our city. We have asked the quaestor to find all those involved in the fight and bring them to justice. As far as paid garages are concerned, we have been pointing out for years that the parking fees are too high and that their owners often have the nerve to use public roads as their parking spaces. This sometimes makes entire streets impassable. If the operators of these garages use Camorra methods and resort to intimidation and violence to enforce their criminal interests, then they should be stopped,” said Francesco Emilio Borrelli, who does not mince his words, commenting on the wild fight.

In any case, it is advisable to visit Naples by public transport, preferably by train.
