Subject: The determination of the winner for 2021 of the BSP National Assembly Award for Political Journalism and Publicism “Georgi Kirkov-Maistora”
On July 26, 2021, a meeting of the Commission for determining the winner of the “Georgi Kirkov-Maistora” award was held. According to the statute, the winners of the award must meet the following requirements: “high professionalism, competence and thoroughness”, “clear political, civil and moral positions”, “authoritative presence in the public space”, “high human and professional morality”.
The members of the IB have the Report note, the Minutes of the meeting and the voting results: Georgi Georgiev – 14 votes, Svetlana Sharenkova – 4 votes, Velizar Enchev – 1 vote. The commission proposed Georgi Georgiev as the winner of the award.
But! On July 30, the IB decided to announce I Svetlana Sharenkova as the winner of the award with unknown arguments and without notifying the Commission. Such a variant was prepared a few days earlier by an unknown person, and two plaques and two certificates were prepared in advance.
Someone (unknown who), despite the Commission’s decisive vote, decided that the award should also be presented to Svetlana Sharenkova. This someone usurped the powers of the Commission, acted in an authoritarian manner, before the meeting of the IB and through the head of the IB. If this happened with the consent and assistance of the chairman of the Commission Alexander Simov and Boyan Angelov, member of the IB and the Commission, who authorized them?
The scandalous self-government was promptly alerted by Dr. Christian Vigenin, Deputy Chairman of the IB, in the hope of preventing these arbitrary actions. Alas! Therefore, the decision of the IB is in contradiction with its powers – to confirm or reject the proposal of the Commission. If the IB does not approve the Commission’s decision, it holds a new meeting.
The decision of the IB of July 30, 2021 continues the vicious practice imposed since 2019, when the Commission’s nomination for the winner of the “Stefan Prodev” young journalist award was not accepted with baseless arguments. Despite the pressure exerted by the IB, the Commission did not change its proposal for Yulia Vladimirova from BSTV, but the award has not been awarded to this day.
Why are committees made of experts at all, since the IB recklessly violates their professional opinion? In this situation, it remains for the winners of the awards to be determined by the IB!
We insist on receiving the transcript of the IB meeting of July 30, 2021 and full information on the reasons for the IB’s decision. We are shocked by the brutal intervention of the IB in the work of a commission appointed by the IB, a commission in which prominent artists, winners of the “Georgi Kirkov-Maistora” award participate! We inform the IB that we will make this position of ours public.
