Gangs of bandits in Nigeria set a bus on fire, scorching 30 passengers to death. Photo/Illustration
Police spokesman for the northwestern Sokoto state, Sanusi Abubakar, said the bus was carrying 24 passengers when it was set on fire by the bandits. Seven people have fled with injuries and were taken to hospital.
But two residents who reached the scene and helped retrieve the bodies said the bus was overloaded and the bodies burned beyond recognition.

They counted the body parts of at least 30 people, including women and children Reuters, Wednesday (12/8/2021).
Residents said villagers were ambushed on a road linking the local government area of Sabon Birni and Gidan Bawa village in Sokoto state.
Bandits move on motorbikes and are known to hide in the forest, where they often detain abductees while waiting for a ransom to be paid.
Bandits in Nigeria last year carried out violent attacks targeting villagers and commuters traveling on highways. They also kidnap hundreds of schoolchildren for ransom in the north of the country.
