“Brutal and Heartbreaking Double Murder in Kristiansand Results in Conviction”

The district court believes the 56-year-old deserves the law’s strictest punishment for having killed his wife and daughter with a hammer and knife.

Fædrelandsvennen reports on Wednesday that a 56-year-old man has now been sentenced to 21 years in prison for the double murder in Kristiansand last year.

He was also found guilty of aggravated assault, as the murders were committed while a child was a witness.

The two women who were killed were Najah Alsharaa (42) and Khadijeh Saed (20). The now convicted man was the husband and father of those killed.

Prosecutor Jan Tallaksen asked the court to sentence the 56-year-old to the law’s strictest punishment following his procedure in court, according to Fædrelandsvennen.

– The murders were a brutal and heartbreaking act, carried out with an anger and force that led to their death within a short time. The defendant is cold and calculating, and I cannot see that there are any mitigating circumstances, said Tallaksen, the newspaper writes.

The now-convicted man pleaded not guilty, and his defense lawyer Mohamed Hamzaoui filed a claim for acquittal on grounds of insanity.

Fædrelandsvennen writes that the experts agreed that the man has mental problems, but that he did not qualify as insane.

The judgment is not final.
