Brussels. The cinema in Brüssow will present the GDR film “An Old Love” on November 17 at 20:00. Starting after the war and ending with the construction of the Wall, the major themes such as homecoming, displacement and a new beginning after the end of the Second World War, the construction of the GDR, the confrontation between the East and West blocs and the political culture, Stalinism and the Stalinist show trials, German division and the effects of the Inner German border and (forced) collectivization in agriculture.
The feature films are joined by original shorts or “eyewitnesses” – where appropriate in terms of time and content – that is, topical shorts that were shown in cinemas at the time because people did not yet have television. In this way, the movie nights tell the story of this decade, which was also one of the golden periods of mass cinema.
As always, the series covers a total of eight evenings: the opening and closing event in the Potsdam Film Museum, the other films in the state of Brandenburg.
With the film-historical introduction by Dr. Claus Löser and the offer of a discussion after the film, the Film Museum and the LAkD would like to help broaden the knowledge of this now distant but formative time and create an opportunity to reflect together on it.
