Brussels –
The Brussels vaccination figures may be partly underestimated because some of the inhabitants have dual nationality and may have already been vaccinated abroad. That is what Inge Neven, head of the Brussels health inspectorate, said on Tuesday.

In terms of vaccination coverage, Brussels is clearly lagging behind the other regions. According to Inge Neven, 61-62 percent of the inhabitants of Brussels have received their first injection. By way of comparison: in Flanders the 75 percent mark has already been exceeded for the first injection.
According to Neven, there is a slight underestimation in the Brussels figures because 35 percent of the Brussels population has dual nationality. “Some of those people have been vaccinated abroad and can have that vaccination recognized if it concerns a vaccine that has been approved by the European Medicines Agency EMA,” explains Neven. Vaccinations with vaccines that have not yet been approved can also be reported because some vaccines may receive the green light at a later date.
“It could be that 4 or 5 percent of that group of residents has already been vaccinated without our knowledge, although I do not put my hand in the fire for that figure,” Neven nuanced.
