Paul Van Haever dazzled and stunned and already showed his intentions at the opening number. “As long as I am alive, I will not be conquered,” it sounded in ‘Invaincu’. “I will do my ‘best’ to speak Dutch.” An entrance in style and applause from 63,000 pairs of hands. “Quel enthusiasm,” it sounded surprised.

That atmosphere would not dampen. While ‘Tous Les Mêmes’ and ‘Quand c’est’ were still received somewhat conservatively, the home match blossomed at ‘Papatouai’. Preceded by a fine piece of technology when a robot dog – after a moving sofa and a floating keyboard – brought him a new outfit.

His big party followed with ‘Ta Fête’. A reborn Maestro and Werchter at the right temperature. ‘Formidable’ was formidable. Just like the whole show. Stromae may well be Belgian. His show is worldly.

The dark no longer haunts his head, but yesterday did provide the magic at Werchter Boutique. Bathed the set in light, then ‘Alors On Danse’ came together with dusk. A magical touch after an hour and a half of genius.

BonJovi gave the park an unexpected goodnight kiss on July 14, 2019. Yesterday a prince with Rwandan roots kissed Werchter awake again.
