Brussels police distributes photos of 12 looters after Bl … (Brussels)

The police are looking for these men because of misconduct after the demonstration on June 7

The Brussels local police have distributed photos of young people and men who died after the Black Lives Matterdemonstration on June 7 in the capital caused riots and subsequently looted shops.

It concerns twelve different men. Images of some men are shown, showing how they throw a heavy cobblestone or attack the police. It is striking that they often keep their face covered. But the Brussels police have also obtained images of the same men, when they walk around with their faces uncovered.

One man was filmed attacking with a road sign. His face is hidden behind a scarf.

Cameras filmed another young man as he walks through Brussels with a pile of clothes in his hands. He probably stole it from a clothing store.

The public provided the images themselves

After the demonstration, riots between rioters and the police arose around Matongéwijk on June 7. In the Naamsestraat vandalism was caused and in the Waterloostraat luxury shops were looted. Video footage showed how a shop of Jimmy Choo, a well-known luxury brand, fell victim to it.

After the demonstration, some 230 people were arrested administratively. But in total, only a handful of young people could be accused of vandalizing or looting.

The police then called on the public to provide them with photos and video footage taken during the demonstration and riots. About 70 people also provided the police with images.

“The images that are now being distributed have been made by surveillance cameras as well as images that we obtained from the neighborhood survey, as well as images that the public has given us,” said police spokeswoman Ilse Van de Keere.
