Brussels fire brigade spokesman Walter Derieuw reported on Thursday that a fire is underway in a carpentry workshop in Anderlecht.
The firefighters intervened at around 6:50 p.m. with three fire engines and three ladder trucks to control the fire which had broken out in a carpentry workshop located in an interior courtyard surrounded by houses.
“The fire caused a lot of smoke,” said Walter Derieuw, spokesman for the Brussels fire brigade. “The evacuation of neighbouring homes was not necessary and the workshop was empty at the time. The concrete roof of the carpentry workshop resisted the flames, but the transparent plastic domes on the roof melted, which allowed the smoke to escape and facilitated our intervention.”

There were no injuries, but the woodwork was completely unusable. Sibelga also cut off the building’s power supply.
“The extinguishing and clearing operations will still take some time,” added the fire brigade spokesman. The fire is believed to have started accidentally.
