EP to adopt deliberate resolution on “active diplomatic engagement”
The European Parliament will adopt a resolution this week reiterating its call for a mutually acceptable solution to the issue of visas imposed by the United States on EU citizens.
According to the EP, “active diplomatic engagement” is needed to abolish visas for citizens of Bulgaria, Romania, Croatia and Cyprus. Tomorrow, MEPs are expected to welcome the abolition of visas for Polish citizens, as well as the confirmation that Croatia meets all the requirements to receive the same relief. The report calls on the United States to speed up the process of completely abolishing visas for all EU citizens.
On Wednesday, MEPs will discuss rising energy prices, as well as work on national economic recovery plans funded by the European budget. They will adopt a report calling for continued European assistance to Turkey in tackling refugees. The document reports that by the end of last year, the EU had provided 7.7 billion euros for Ankara for this purpose.
Tonight, the EP will consider a report by MEP Petar Vitanov (BSP / SD) on the application of artificial intelligence in criminal law. The report calls for a moratorium on the use of facial recognition for law enforcement. Artificial intelligence is reported to be useful for detecting financial and cybercrime, but includes speech recognition, lip reading technology, prediction, and behavior detection skills. In the judiciary, these abilities can be used to calculate the likelihood of re-offending and to set probation, or to decide on a sentence, the report said.
On Thursday, MEPs will discuss a report by Elena Yoncheva (BSP / SD) on the EU asylum agency. The new European agency was set up earlier this year and is expected to help EU countries relocate and relocate migrants and refugees.
