The work done by the Prime Minister’s team was launched by Hristo Ivanov before a coalition meeting
Radev, BSP and “There is such a people” do not like this
The idea of overcoming the coalition crisis with Bulgaria’s veto over the start of Northern Macedonia’s EU membership talks was launched by Democratic Bulgaria co-chair Hristo Ivanov on Friday hours before a meeting of the four parties’ leaders on the issue.
In the negotiating framework between the EU and Northern Macedonia, it should be written that the country will change its constitution and sign the rights of Bulgarians there, Ivanov demanded. According to him, the EC will become a kind of guarantor and will increase the chance that we will get what we expect.
It is a matter of Bulgaria’s national interest for Northern Macedonia to be a member of the EU once it meets our expectations. They are related to the protection of human rights. These are topics related to the basic Copenhagen criteria. To date, Skopje has not implemented them. If we find in the tripartite relations between Sofia, Brussels and Skopje, between the EC, Bulgaria and the PCM such a situation in which we keep our guarantees and increase them, that such implementation will occur to see if we can not move forward, including doing what is required of us, commented Ivanov.
Not for us to ask Northern Macedonia when they will do it, but for them to tell us: “Wait for the floods to blossom”, but for the EC to ask this question with all the weight of the consequences of the PCM negotiation process, explained the co-chair of the DB.
In reality, Ivanov has publicly launched an idea that Prime Minister Kiril Petkov and his advisers have been negotiating with the European Commission for six months now – the rights of Bulgarians to be part of the RSM’s accession talks. So far, however, the prime minister has not commented publicly on what has been achieved, although according to people from the Council of Ministers
has consent in The EU to be accepted this Bulgarian condition
Bulgaria must be pragmatic and look for the best situation to meet its expectations of Skopje, said the co-chair of the DB. We need to discuss the possibilities carefully and without much hysteria. At every stage, the hysteria that every discussion of a proposal and opportunity is a compromise, a national betrayal, ties our hands, he added.
So far, the DB has not committed to a position
whether the veto on Northern Macedonia should be lifted. And in the tension between the four parties, they saw attempts to “destabilize the coalition by the Russian agency in our country”, in the words of Atanas Atanasov. Yesterday, however, before the coalition council, he announced that
there are no conditions to rise veto, and That’s right distinguish from Hristo Ivanov
The proposal was not approved by President Rumen Radev, who is pushing for Bulgarians to be included in the Macedonian constitution. Last night, he advised the government to focus its energy on northern Macedonia on solving the problems of Bulgarians.
The BSP and “There is such a people” also did not support the idea launched publicly by Hristo Ivanov. The veto for Northern Macedonia is a red line for both parties, with Slavi Trifonov’s people even signaling that they are ready to leave the coalition if Bulgaria’s position is changed.
I have no feeling that the European Commission would agree to become a guarantor for the implementation of Bulgaria’s demands and the agreement between the two countries, however, Ivanov was cut off by the head of the left-wing group in parliament, Georgi Svilenski. He was adamant that the BSP has not changed its position on northern Macedonia.
There is no external pressure on the BSP and the coalition, he said when asked if there was external pressure on our country to lift the veto.
However, Svilenski explained that Kiril Petkov’s idea of convening a meeting of the President’s National Security Advisory Council is a good one. This will enable representatives of all parties to hear what has been done on relations with Northern Macedonia, whether there is progress, he commented.
Thus, for the second time, the BSP supported the Prime Minister’s request for a meeting of the CIS on the topic, which was already supported by the Deputy Prime Minister and party leader Cornelia Ninova. After Rumen Radev signaled that he would not convene one and announced that he wanted to hear the prime minister’s arguments, Ninova publicly reminded him that by law the KSNS must meet once every 3 months.
Slavi Trifonov’s party was also adamant that they have not changed their position. ITN expert and former MP Nikolay Radulov even linked the Bulgarian version of the Magnitsky law, prepared by Deputy Prime Minister Asen Vassilev, to the topic of Northern Macedonia. He saw in the project
a threat to those who do not agree absolutely unconditionally to start negotiations with the PCM
Apparently there are some rumors in the public space that something has been said somewhere. When he reaches the prime minister, he begins to deny in a panic. Maybe there was no such thing. Moreover, vague messages are beginning to creep into the public space that Putin may be the one who opposes the PCM’s accession. It’s an attempt to bend arms, said Prof. Radulov.
The MP Stanislav Balabanov went to the coalition council with the explicit condition that the Macedonians first observe all Bulgarian conditions and then the veto be lifted.
Must to open change in the constitution
and to write that the Bulgarians are a people with equal rights. From there, they must confirm and fulfill all other conditions, he said upon entering the Council of Ministers. With the exception of one foreign policy team and one prime minister, who pursued a different policy, all parties in parliament are in one position. Maybe that’s why this coalition council, added the MP from ITN. He would ask whether the country is governed alone, adding to the topics Bulgaria’s entry into the eurozone, as well as the adoption of a Bulgarian version of the American law “Magnitsky”.
