This vaccine is designed to better match circulating variants of SARS-CoV-2 and therefore can expand protection against different variants, thus helping to maintain optimal protection against to Covid-19 with the evolution of the virus.
The decision is supported by the recommendation of the European Medicines Agency (EMA), which published a report on 1 September favorable for both Pfizer and Moderna vaccines.
The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has already approved the use of two BA.4 / BA.5 vaccines for emergency use in late August.
