Brussels Airport Environmental Permit Proposal Includes Limits on Flight Movements and Noise Restrictions

The GOVC proposes to issue a ‘conditionally favorable’ advice for a new environmental permit for Brussels Airport, of unlimited duration. The total number of flight movements at the airport would be limited to a maximum of 234,000 from 2030. This ceiling is lower than the approximately 240,000 flights that the airport operator itself expects by 2032.

The advice also proposes tightening the quiet weekend nights – which currently only apply to departing flights. From 2026, no departures or landings would be allowed between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. on the nights of Friday to Saturday, Saturday to Sunday and Sunday to Monday. By 2030 that would be from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. Some exceptions are provided.
