Brussels Airlines plane has to turn around after pi…

A Brussels Airlines plane unexpectedly had to return to Zaventem Airport about an hour after takeoff on Monday afternoon. The pilot was said to have become unwell.

It concerned a plane that took off from Brussels Airport Zaventem on Monday in the direction of Lomé, the capital of Togo, and would make a stopover in the Ghanaian capital Accra. But after an hour the pilot became unwell. “The plane was then hovering over Paris and it was decided to return to Brussels. The copilot then took over,” said Kim Daenen, spokesperson for Brussels Airlines. Landing in Paris itself was not necessary, according to the spokesperson. “In such cases, we always review the situation. For example, if we have a pregnant woman on board who has to give birth immediately, it may be that we land as soon as possible. But if we can, we will return to Brussels.”

The copilot flew the plane back to Zaventem, where the pilot received medical care. “We then called on another pilot who was able to resume the flight with the entire crew and passengers.”

Brussels Airlines will not release any details about the pilot’s medical condition, but the spokesperson confirms that there are no Covid-19 symptoms.
