After the unions at Brussels Airlines threatened to strike at the beginning of this week, they are now announcing that the pilots will indeed stop work. They want to ground their aircraft from March 23 to 27.
The strike is the result of a conflict between staff and management that has been going on for years. The pilots argue that they lost wages during the corona crisis and that they want to recoup their wages now that the airline is doing better.
According to the unions, this involves an average pay cut of 14,000 euros per year for pilots and increased work pressure with working days of up to 12 hours. “Despite the fact that Brussels Airlines, part of the profitable Lufthansa Group, made a profit of 53 million euros in 2023, the surrenders remain permanent.”
