As reasons why Brussels Airlines did not make a profit last year, the company refers, among other things, to the omi corona wave of the corona virus. But the company was also plagued by some strikes and there is the skyrocketing inflation.
Yet there are many other airlines that made a profit last year. They also suffered from omikron and inflation, but they apparently coped better. Even competitor KLM was able to make a profit last year, despite the problems at Schiphol. Low-cost airlines such as Ryanair have also completely processed corona.
“You can’t just compare Brussels Airlines with other companies,” says Nina Öwerdieck. “Our mainstay is our African network, which has remained stable over the past year. Other airlines were able to make a lot of profit thanks to their flights to North America, which were very popular last year. We don’t have that network.”
