This is what the mayor of Quebec said on his Facebook page on the occasion of March 8, International Women’s Rights Day.
“I have asked the City to find ways to allow us to achieve within 5 years a zone of parity between men and women among the executives of the City of Quebec. We are at 26% today, we must reach at least 40%. It is an ambitious goal, but it is necessary. It will be good for everyone,” wrote Mr. Marchand.
According to him, “equality is still not achieved, even at home. Among the challenges that remain to be met, there is women’s access to management positions, in companies, organizations and in the public service. There is progress, but the pace is generally insufficient.
On Tuesday, on the sidelines of a dinner-conference of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Quebec, Mr. Marchand had made a similar observation by agreeing “that we must take concrete action” to improve the representation of women in the decision-making positions.
