Bruno Guimarães and Matheus Cunha apologize for podium controversy

After winning the Olympic gold in Tokyo, defensive midfielder Bruno Guimarães and forward Matheus Cunha participated in the “Well, Friends” program and apologized for the controversy involving the warm clothes in the delivery of the medals.

Last Saturday (7), the Brazilians beat Spain in the decision of the football male and climbed to the highest place on the podium failing to comply with the determination of the Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB), which forced athletes to wear the jacket of Chinese supplier Peak. Instead, players tied sweaters around their waists and showed off Nike jerseys.

“At the time of euphoria, it’s a great ecstasy. It’s a call to the woman, to the family. Then the Japanese entered the locker room saying that we only needed the podium. If we were aware of the size of this, we wouldn’t have it that done, we didn’t want to disrespect any athlete. We were in the Olympic spirit, we got together at the hotel to watch (the other sports). Of course we made a mistake and we apologize,” said Bruno Guimarães.

“It wasn’t an accepted decision, it was a moment of ecstasy. It wasn’t for any malice, if someone was harmed by us, we apologize because we didn’t want that. We cheer for all Brazilian athletes, we are very proud to have been part of Team Brazil . It was a totally unconscious decision making, we didn’t want to harm anyone, so we apologize,” concluded Matheus Cunha.

Not Sunday, to Peak manifested himself on his social networks and resonated with irony the situation.

“We congratulate the Brazilian football team. However, we hope that this confrontation will not be in the headlines tomorrow. We confirm that it is a rumor that Nike was a secondary brand of Peak and that we are part of the same company. We are companies different, and there was no intention of there being a combination of Nike shirts and Peak podium pants, that’s a crazy rumor. Someone needs to be held responsible for this, and for putting Nike in an awkward situation. We are Peak , they are Nike. This is our podium ceremony for the football team. I hope everything is clear now. Anyway, the athletes are to be congratulated,” posted the company on Instagram.
