Harry Maguire has been Manchester United’s main captain since last season coming from Leicester City, following the departure of Ashley Young. However, Maguire’s performance during this year does not reflect his position as captain.
Maguire even often makes blunders and is considered to be the Red Devils’ weak point. The criticism has been increasingly felt this season because of MU’s bad start and Maguire’s problems in Greece when he was the perpetrator of beating members of the police.
With controversy outside the field, it is clear that Maguire is not considered a figure worthy of being the current MU captain. Moreover, MU needs players who can really be used as role models so that the team can go further.
Well, there happens to be a figure who is considered fit to replace Maguire, he is Fernandes. Even though he hasn’t joined the season yet, Fernandes has also made big changes for MU in terms of play.
Fernandes was then asked to become captain when MU played the Champions League inaugural matchday at home to PSG, Wednesday (21/10/2020) in the morning WIB, replacing Maguire who was absent due to lack of fit.
With experience Bruno Fernandes being captain at Sporting, it was clear he really met the criteria as a new leader at MU,
“Bruno is the right choice because since coming to this club, he has given everything United need,” said former assistant manager of MU from Holland, Rene Meulensteen, told talkSPORT.
“Can he be a permanent captain? I think he can, because I see he is very consistent,” he continued.
“He plays all the time, his performance is almost perfect, 9 out of 10. He always has an impact on the game.”
“You always want to have an influential player on the pitch ‘He’s always there, the captain on the pitch, he will take us to win’,” concluded Meulensteen.
