HOCKEY. Simon-Pier Brunet and Luke Woodworth will soon be back with the Drummondville Voltigeurs.
In the last few hours, Simon-Pier Brunet was cut by the Buffalo Sabres. The 19-year-old defenseman was hampered by an injury during his participation in the organization’s rookie camp and main camp. The Gatineau native was a fourth-round pick by the Sabres in the last National Hockey League draft.
Meanwhile, 20-year-old forward Luke Woodworth was cut by the Los Angeles Kings on Monday. Initially invited to rookie camp, the Voltigeurs captain then took part in the Californian organization’s main camp.

After guiding the Voltigeurs to the Gilles-Courteau Trophy last spring, Luke Woodworth will play his fifth season in the QMJHL. The Nova Scotian holds several team records, including those for most consecutive games played (232) and most shootout goals in a career (7).
This means that the Voltigeurs now have three of their four veterans participating in professional camps back. Twenty-year-old goaltender Riley Mercer returned to Drummondville last week after skating with the Minnesota Wild’s top prospects. As for 19-year-old forward Ethan Gauthier, he is still present at the Tampa Bay Lightning training camp.
