While other countries in ASEAN are still struggling with the COVID-19 pandemic, Brunei Darussalam to be a country with a minimum number of COVID-19 cases. Last week, only two new cases were found.
The two new cases are said to have come from Indonesian citizens who came to Brunei on 27 June. Brunei Darussalam recorded the best record in the world in handling the pandemic because after tracing the results there were no close contacts for the two new cases.
After setting a record, quoted from The Scoop, Saturday (17/7/2021) Brunei Darussalam finally held the 75th birthday of the Sultan of Brunei Hassanal Bolkiah on Thursday last week at the palace grounds. This event was canceled last year due to COVID-19.
In the event, several invited guests were also invited to be vaccinated against COVID-19 in accordance with the protocols newly established by the Brunei Ministry of Home Affairs. This party is also called only a small scale, considering the health risks of COVID-19 still haunting.
In 2020, military ceremony and medal presentation at the palace Brunei Darussalam canceled due to ongoing concerns over COVID safety. This year, the government decided to continue with public events except for the annual royal banquet held at the palace.
Not only inside the palace, it turned out that many people gathered outside the palace to witness the ceremony. The Brunei government has also prepared hundreds of security and health officers to ensure the event runs smoothly.
A Brunei ambulance commander, said several ambulances and 100 medical personnel were deployed to ensure the safety of the crowd. Two static clinics were set up in SOAS Park, around the Palace to handle emergencies.
Sixteen fire trucks and boats are also on standby, according to the Fire and Rescue Department Brunei Darussalam.
