Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Southeast Asia is now experiencing a spike in Covid-19 cases. Even the average countries in the ASEAN region are compact hotspot spread of Covid-19.
Since striking early last month, there have been few signs of slowing cases. Some countries even continue to record daily cases, record deaths, and are forced to tighten restrictions and even repeat lockdown.
In the latest report, the only ASEAN country that had not previously recorded local cases, namely Brunei, is now “suffering” otherwise. Cases even record Monday (9/8/2021) to 42 cases.
This made the country at the end of Kalimantan to impose strict restrictions again, to stop the spread of Covid-19. All places of worship and schools are closed for two weeks.
Mass events are also limited to 30 people. Restaurants are prohibited from serving food on the premises.
This happened after the appearance of the first local case, after more than a year being free of corona. Seven infections were discovered in local communities last Saturday.
Authorities said it was still not clear where the cases came from. However, it is estimated that the illegal Brunei-Malaysia crossing is the source of infection.
“This cluster is believed to be a possible result of exposure to one of the imported Brunei cases,” the ministry said in a statement AFP.
This sultanate with 450,000 inhabitants is one of the few countries that have successfully controlled the corona virus. Since ‘exploding’ in early 2020, local Covid cases are almost non-existent.
It is not yet known whether the virus circulating is the Delta variant, which originated in India and is rapidly spreading. Case samples are still being sent to Singapore for identification.
Quotes WorldometersCurrently, Brunei has recorded 98 active cases. In total cases since the pandemic broke out in the world, Brunei has only recorded 406 cases with three deaths.
