Hubert Bruls, chairman of the Security Council, has once again called on the Dutch to adhere to the corona measures. “Behave yourself and on earth stick to the measures,” he told NU.nl on Monday evening after the meeting of the Security Council.
“The shortage in hospitals should stimulate us to comply with the measures, so that the number of infections decreases,” says Bruls.
“Do not go to the zoo to look at the monkey cage. Do not go into town to socialize with people. Do not party under that bridge on a Saturday night and do not constantly point to the government,” continued the mayor of Nijmegen. “The role and responsibility remains with all of us.”
Bruls partially understood people who expressed frustration about having received a corona fine, but hundreds of people who were at an illegal party in Laren, among others.
“I understand very well that it is annoying when you yourself are bumped into the fact that someone else is not being fined. But on the other hand: it should never be an excuse to justify your own behavior,” said Bruls.
Tuesday evening, the cabinet will give a press conference
During the meeting, it was also discussed what should happen if the number of infections does not fall this week, but Bruls and Minister Ferd Grapperhaus (Justice and Security), who is also present, did not want to say anything about this.
On Tuesday evening, Prime Minister Mark Rutte and Minister Hugo de Jonge (Public Health) will speak to the press and during that moment they are expected to warn the Dutch population again to comply with the measures.
If the contamination figures do not fall, a second lockdown threatens, as was the case last spring.
