Mayor Bill de Blasio announced in early June the holding of a giant concert, scheduled for August 21, although the date has not yet been confirmed.
The organizer of the event, producer Clive Davis, then said he wanted to line up eight stars. The three-hour concert is scheduled to take place in front of some 60,000 people on site and with televised coverage around the world.
71-year-old Bruce Springsteen, nicknamed The Boss, was the first star to reprise his Broadway show last week. Her intimate spectacle, which had been interrupted by the pandemic, was delivered in front of a duly vaccinated audience.
The American singer-songwriter Paul Simon, 79, made a tour in 2018 that was supposed to be his farewell tour to the stage.
Jennifer Hudson, 39, both R&B singer and actress, will notably play Aretha Franklin in the film Respect due out in August, a tribute to the queen of soul who died in 2018.
