A deal that seemed to be on its way but, hour after hour, is increasingly assuming the contours of an international market case. The soap opera that is enveloping Marcelo Brozovic acquires different connotations, different nuances and the passage of time is only making them more and more evident. The Croatian’s attitude on social media – from loving passes for Inter to replies to his teammates, Barella in the first place – does not correspond to the reality of the facts that the Nerazzurri have confronted him with. A necessary sale, not so much for budgetary reasons, but simply to unlock a treasure to be reinvested immediately in the various objectives that the Milanese have set for themselves (Fractesi on everyone). The love story, renewed only in March of last year, is destined to end: also thanks to the need to make Asllani grow and Calhanoglu flourish as a point guard in the middle of the field. Technical-tactical assessments aside, Croatian is – and most likely it will be – the first sacrificed at the Nerazzurri. But if it is a question of sacrifice, then Brozovic wants to decide his fate: waiting for a particular team – read Barcelona – the Saudi track is trying, in every way, to convince the Croatian to accept the courtship and fly to Arabia.
AL-NASSR WON’T GIVE UP – The Arab team – strengthened by an agreement with Inter for a transfer of 23 million euros – has flown to Milan in the last few days to try and meet the player directly and convince him to marry the Saudi cause. The proposal, on the other hand, was more than attractive: 20 million euros net per season for 3 years, for a total of 60 million in Brozovic’s coffers. A monstre figure for the Croatian, nothing more classic and normal for a Saudi Pro League club. However, the iron-clad agreement with the Nerazzurri did not turn into the long-awaited green light awaited by Brozovic. Indeed, the Croatian midfielder decided to avoid meeting the Saudi delegation, giving himself time and more. He even re-raised: 30 million net for two years. Reasonable, given the infinite possibilities of the PIF fund, to understand the margins of the negotiation. Equally reasonable to try to snatch the most advantageous deal possible before accepting a transfer to the new El Dorado of world football. Finally, there is a not indifferent underlying thought: Brozovic still feels like a top-level player. Still 30 years old, still in splendid form, the Croatian does not want to close the door to a possible return to the football that matters to him. Not really, therefore, a question of money, but of sensations, emotions, awareness: it is not yet – or rather, if it really has to be, better earn as much as possible – the time has come to spend the winter in the rain of Arab money. Al-Nassr, whose delegation remained in Europe to deal with Brozovic’s entourage, is trying to satisfy the Croatian’s requests and outrun the competition. A competition called Barcelona.
THE BARCELONA HYPOTHESIS: THE STRATEGY – A great desire to compete again with international football. The need to still feel important in another interlude of absolute level. And this is where Barcelona fits in, a more than welcome destination for the Croatian. Blue and white willing to put on the plate an amount between 18 and 20 million euros – the minimum to seat Inter at the negotiating table – plus an engagement for Brozovic worth 7 million euros net per year, ready to rise to 9 at the end of the three-year contract. But what is missing for the Catalans to attempt a lunge at the Croatian and free the Nerazzurri on the entry market? In reality, the motivation is simple: salary cap. Barcelona’s far too high wage bill needs to be eased before someone can be placed in the squad – which is why Gundogan has not yet been presented as an official purchase, despite an established agreement -. Also, in just over 24 hours, Barcelona risks being overwhelmed by the 54 million euros of salaries of all the players returned from the various loans: from 20 by Umtiti to 10.8 by Dest, passing through 16 by Lenglet (one step away from returning to Tottenham), 4.5 by Nico Gonzalez, 2.7 by Collado and 1.6 by Gustavo Maia. A significant figure that will weigh on the balance of the reigning Spanish champions and which leads the president Joan Laporta to review the plans for the incoming transfer market, including Brozovic, destined, in Xavi’s thoughts, to take over the legacy left by Busquets . What strategy then to sink the blow? Simple: sell and sell as soon as possible. From the interests for Ferran Torres and Ansu Fati (who, however, will not have to generate any kind of capital loss) up to the hand extended by Saudi Arabia, ready – thanks to Al Ahly – to offer 20 million a year for Franck Kessié. An offer to be evaluated – even if the Ivorian would prefer to continue playing his cards in Catalonia or continue his career in Europe, Bundesliga or Premier League – who would provide Barcelona with the necessary funds to close the purchase of Brozovic, satisfying both his immense desire to compete again in football that matters and the Nerazzurri club, finally free to act on the market. Otherwise, the Catalans have set their sights on Oriol Romeu, the Girona midfielder who already knows the world blaugrana, having grown up in their cantera. Everything, in one way or another, comes from the magical Arab world: Inter are waiting (so as to define the Frattesi deal with Sassuolo, on the basis of 35 million euros plus Mulattieri’s price tag), Barcelona tries and Brozovic stalls. A wait that will not, however, be eternal: i blaugrana they are called to send out a definitive signal, otherwise the Saudis will satisfy the Croatian and the class of ’92 will allow themselves to be convinced by the shower of Arab millions, whether they like it or not. Everyone is waiting to conclude this plot as soon as possible.
