Brothers residing in the US are stranded in Cuba after passports are stolen – 2024-04-12 14:28:20

Cuban brothers residing in the United States reported having been trapped on the island during a trip after someone stole their passports. Now, Manuel Alejandro Pardo and Rachel are stranded in the Greater Antilles without documents or resources.

According to a video shared by journalist Javier Díaz, the pair arrived on the Island on April 4, staying in the province of Mayabeque. They stayed at the young man’s girlfriend’s house, and two days later, they rented a vehicle to travel to Cárdenas, in Matanzas, his hometown.

However, upon reaching their destination, they were met with the bitter surprise that their wallet, which contained their money and important documents, including their passports, had been stolen.

Left without passports, the pair cannot prove their residency in the US, so they find themselves in trouble. The pair have started a process to get new passports, but they are worried because it is a process that can take up to a month.

The young man asked for help to give visibility to his case and to be able to contact the United States Embassy and receive help with his case, since they have several pending jobs and payments to be made in the North American territory.

In that sense, the brothers are asking for information to know what to do, because they want to know the steps to follow to be able to leave the Island without further problems. For now, no further details have been revealed about the robbery suffered by the young people.

Some Internet users among the comments told similar stories, pointing out that they had to go to the US diplomatic headquarters to solve the problem.

“It also happened to my youngest son and me, as the American embassy was closed in Cuba, we waited to get our passports and from there we went to Guyana, a visa-free country and we made an appointment with the American consul there, to to assist us and put the visa in our passports and give us entry to the US, then we arrived here and asked for residency again,” explained user Vivián Domínguez.

Others recommended that they travel to the capital of the Island to ask for the help of a legal consultancy, as they affirm that this method would allow them to obtain a passport in a period much less than a month.
