Aargau travel company smuggled over half a ton of marijuana into Switzerland with its car – now the brothers are facing charges

Two brothers have imported large quantities of marijuana into Switzerland on several occasions through their travel company. Now they are on trial.

In the summer of 2021, the Aargau cantonal police were able to arrest the accused and two accomplices in a joint operation with the Federal Office of Customs and Border Security. The cantonal public prosecutor’s office is currently prosecuting the 45-year-old Kosovar and his 41-year-old brother for commercial and gang-related narcotics trafficking.

The brothers now have to answer in court because of the marijuana.

The brothers, together with two assistants, had imported large quantities of marijuana into Switzerland from abroad on several occasions. After extensive investigative work, the Aargau cantonal police, in collaboration with the Federal Office of Customs and Border Security, were able to stop a coach and an accompanying vehicle in the canton of Vaud in the summer of 2021 that had crossed the Swiss border a few minutes earlier.

Narcotics hidden in touring car trailer

Around 116 kilograms of packaged marijuana were seized in the trailer of the touring car. The drugs were hidden behind a double wall. The street value of the confiscated narcotics was over one million francs. After the arrests, the men were found to have made six smuggling trips between February and June 2021. In total, they smuggled 622 kilograms of marijuana into Switzerland.

The older of the two brothers is considered the main actor. He is charged with multiple violations of the Narcotics Act. His brother also committed other crimes such as fraud and various violations of the Road Traffic Act. With the charges referred to the responsible courts, the public prosecutor’s office is demanding prison sentences of six years and ten years of expulsion from the country.

Four years and ten years’ expulsion from the country are required for their driver and a conditional prison sentence of one year is required for the last accomplice because of a one-time involvement in the machinations. The presumption of innocence applies until a final conviction is made
