The 15-year-old boy, who is detained for an armed robbery of an elderly couple in Roosendaal, was caught by two observant brothers. One of them tells his story anonymously to Omroep Brabant. “He suddenly came back without a balaclava as if nothing was wrong. We didn’t know what we were going through.”

Three robbers broke into a house on Florisdonk in Roosendaal on Sunday afternoon and threatened an elderly couple with a knife. They then fled with the loot – something that did not go unnoticed by an observant local resident.
“I was waving goodbye to my brother on the street at twelve o’clock in the afternoon,” he tells Omroep Brabant. “Suddenly we see three boys running away in the corner of the street. I broke my leg six months ago so I don’t run as fast anymore, but I walked up to them with my brother in the hope that we could film them.”

“Those two started cursing at us.”
The local resident sees that a bicycle and scooter are parked in a nearby playground. “I thought, they might have something to do with it.” That turns out to be true. The brothers walk to the playground and come face to face with two robbers.
“They came up to us in balaclavas. The two started cursing at us and yelled at the other boy, who was carrying the loot, to flee. I filmed everything.”
The two boys flee after ‘some hassle’ on their bicycles. The third boy flees on foot from the playground. He seems to have disappeared. But then something special happens.
“About two minutes later he suddenly came back, but now without a balaclava and without loot. He suddenly acted very nonchalantly, as if he had nothing to do with it. He tried very calmly to walk to his scooter to drive away. It was almost comical. We hardly understood what we were seeing because we saw him run away two minutes earlier.”

“He just wanted to drive away, but he was 15 and about six feet tall.”
It does not take long before the two brothers overpower the boys. “I was literally calling the police at the time. We had already taken his scooter key. We then sat on it until the police came. About eight minutes after we saw the boys, the police were there.”
He can laugh about it afterwards. “He just wanted to drive away, but yes, he was 15 and about six feet tall. That boy was full of survival instinct and was quite strong for his purpose, but me and my brother were just a few sizes too big.”
Police are still looking for CCTV footage from the area. She also hopes to get in touch with witnesses. The other two boys have still not been found.
