Brothers Convicted of Fraud in Strasbourg – Nine Victims Identify Total Loss of 13,200 Euros

The two convicted brothers charged hundreds of euros after announcing low prices. Nine victims were identified, for a total loss of 13,200 euros.

Two brothers aged 27 and 34 were sentenced Wednesday at the Strasbourg court to two years in prison, including one year suspended, for fraud: they offered elderly people false treatments against bedbugs billed at much higher amounts. to those announced.

Nine victims identified

Alexis and Domenico S. took advantage of the proliferation of bedbugs observed in 2023 to offer solutions against these parasitic insects in the fall to elderly people who could not travel.

Posing as pharmacists, agents of a medical-social center or a social landlord, they invited themselves to the homes of their victims, aged between 77 and 93, to offer them false services.

They advertised products and services for low prices, sometimes less than five euros, but charged hundreds of euros via an electronic payment terminal, without issuing an invoice or ticket. Nine victims were identified for a total loss of 13,200 euros.

The convicts apologized

The court handed down identical sentences against the two brothers, two years in prison including one year with suspended probation and an obligation to work, but without continued detention, which means that the guilty parties will appear before the judge responsible for the application of the sentences to adjust the firm part of their sentences.

They were also fined 5,000 euros each, 5 years of ineligibility and banned from appearing in Alsace. The prosecution had requested sentences of 18 months in prison, including six months suspended.

“I ask you to judge them as two little crooks, two little idiots, I want to give them pies,” argued one of the two defense lawyers, Me Xavier Metzger.

“But there is more interest in punishing with an electronic bracelet and an obligation to work and compensate the victims than simply sending them to detention.” He finally won his case. Both men apologized after the hearing.
