NEW YORK – Chris Cuomo, the brother of former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, will return to television after CNN fired him last December for helping the then-New York head of government in a sex scandal for which he was forced to resign.
The television presenter, who had become one of the best-known faces on CNN, will resume his activity next fall on the Nexstar Media channel’s talk show Newsnation, the network announced.
The American television channel CNN fired Cuomo last December after suspending him from work while it investigated him for helping his brother.
The decision to terminate the presenter’s contract came after New York State Attorney General Letitia James presented documents according to which Chris Cuomo tried to assist the former governor’s press team in managing his crisis, offering advice and trying to use their sources to find out if more women planned to accuse the politician in public.
Cuomo has denounced the chain for the dismissal and demands compensation of 125 million dollars.
Andrew Cuomo stepped down as governor in August 2021 in the wake of a report also released by the state attorney that concluded he had harassed eleven women, after which he faced a potential impeachment investigation and a growing pressure from his fellow party members to resign.
Both are sons of former New York Governor Mario Cuomo and have a close relationship, as was evident in several of the press conferences that Andrew Cuomo offered during the first months of the pandemic.
Minutes after CNN’s statement, Chris Cuomo wrote a response tweet, noting that this was not how he “wanted his tenure at CNN to end” and stressed that he was disappointed because “he had already said why and how he helped his brother.”
However, he ended the message with words of thanks to his team and the program. I will miss that special group of people who did some really important work,” she added.
The CNN journalist is the brother of New York Governor Andrew Cuomo.
