Brother of former Afghan vice president executed by the Taliban

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Taliban executed the brother of Amrullah Saleh, the former vice president of Afghanistan. Saleh’s brother became one of the leaders of the anti-Taliban opposition forces in the Panjshir valley.

News of the killing of Rohullah Azizi, Saleh’s brother, comes days after Taliban forces seized control of Panjshir province.

“They executed my uncle,” his nephew Ebadullah Saleh told Reuters.

“They killed him yesterday and won’t let us bury him. They keep saying his body must rot.”

However, the Taliban claim that Azizi was killed in the fighting in the Panjshir valley some time ago.

The Taliban War and the Afghan National Resistance Front (NRF) lasted for several days and resulted in Taliban victory.

The NRF vowed to continue to oppose the Taliban even after the fall of the provincial capital of Panjshir, Bazarak. This group consists of the opposition Taliban loyal to movement leader Ahmad Massoud.
Previously, the Taliban declared victory over the Panjshir valley some time ago.

“Panjshir province completely falls into the hands of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan,” Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said on Twitter.

Mujahid also added that several members of the anti-Taliban group led by Ahmad Massoud (NRF), which had controlled the Panjshir Valley, were also killed in the fighting.

This Taliban victory brought outrage on the part of the NRF. They condemned the new government of Afghanistan and considered the government to be pariah or inferior and illegitimate.

NRF spokesman, Ali Maisam Nazary, also considered the Taliban’s promise of an inclusive government to be false.

“The modern Taliban narrative is over. No Taliban supports inclusive governance.”
