Citizen Juan Rodríguez, brother of the Cuban woman murdered by her partner along with her two children in Miami-Dade, spoke to the local press, revealing more details about this unfortunate event.
According to Rodríguez, the murderer, who ended up taking his own life after the crime, was a very controlling person, who did not allow that toxic relationship of several decades to end.
“He was a very controlling guy, very controlling. Unfortunately, my sister could not escape this relationship,” said the man, referring to Víctor Penalba, 60 years old and originally from Havana.
The man also revealed to the media Telemundo 51 macabre details about how this triple homicide-suicide was carried out, pointing out that Penalba would have waited until everyone was asleep.
“He killed them while they were sleeping. He put the pillow on them and shot them with a 9mm Glock, that’s why no one heard anything,” he explained.
Rodríguez indicated that the couple broke up regularly, but that his sister always decided to return to him. Likewise, he said that although they were not legally married, the relationship resulted in the birth of his two children: Jason and Stephanie Penalba, ages 18 and 13, respectively.
According to the victim’s relative, Víctor had recently been fired, so he suspects that his sister felt sorry for him and decided to let him live with them despite a recent breakup.
The uncle of the murdered young people indicated that the relationship was so stormy that the same young man, Jason, warned his girlfriend that if she did not hear from him for several days, it was because something bad had happened to them.
In that sense, he indicated that it was this girlfriend who became concerned when she noticed his absence and went to the apartment located in the Royalton on the Green Apartments condominium, on 174th Street and 68th Avenue in the northwest of the county. However, when she received no response, she alerted the police.
Miami-Dade County authorities indicated that they went to the scene after receiving a request from acquaintances of the Penalba family. Upon arrival, the officers noticed an unpleasant odor coming from the apartment, so they entered the place and discovered four bodies with gunshot wounds.
Due to the advanced state of decomposition, it is estimated that the family had been dead for about two weeks. Everything indicates that Víctor Penalba shot all the members of his family while they were sleeping and then proceeded to take his own life with the same weapon.
