At this food bank in Williamsburg they still prepare about 900 meals a day for people in need in the neighborhood.
“It is not easy, especially with the epidemic that occurred now, many people do not have work … Many people need help and if I can help them with anything, then I do it,” explained Milagro Camacho, volunteer, North Brooklyn Angels.
They are the North Angels of Brooklyn, a non-profit organization that for four years has supported people in need in the area, especially in the wake of the pandemic.
“There is a great need in the community, some people think that the people of North Brooklyn and Williamsburg are from wealthy neighborhoods, but there are people who need food,” said Sarah Harold, organizer, North Brooklyn Angels.
In this place they start cooking at 7.30 in the morning, and later they pack the hot food to transport it at noon to different points in Williamsburg, Bushwick and Greenpoint.
Every day around 10 volunteers come, from teenagers, retired people, students and even musicians like Simón Kafka.
“For me it is perfect because I usually work at night, in the afternoon and at night, then off in the morning and it is easier to come here … I live in this neighborhood and it seems to me a very important thing that we do things for ourselves. communities, “Kafka said.
They deliver food from Monday to Friday from 12.30 to 1.30pm. They maintain their operations thanks to donations and believe that they will continue to operate because the need has not ended.
“I am happy to help all the people who need my help,” added Kafka.
