Archaeologists have so far excavated five of the mounds, one of which was probably built in the Early Stone Age. In the mound they found the remains of so many men and women that archaeologists still have no idea how many people are actually buried here.

“Such graves are rare and because there are no grave goods, they will be dated using the carbon 14 method,” the press release said.

In addition to the mass grave, the researchers found six other traces of graves, including cremation graves.

A number of drinking vessels from the so-called Bell Beaker culture have also been found, which originated around 2400 BC. spread throughout England.

The dating of the finds shows that the tombs were built at the same time as Stonehenge, which was built between 3000 and 2500 BC. was built.

Researchers have previously, after finding cremated remains of up to 58 people, established that the building also served as a cemetery.
