Bronx Woman, 68, Sexually Assaulted in Broad Daylight While Witnesses Do Nothing, Police Say: Report

NEW YORK — Authorities are investigating a disturbing sexual assault in the Bronx. A 68-year-old woman walking down the street was dragged into a garage and sexually assaulted.

During the crime, he received no help from any witness, according to police sources.

The ordeal occurred just after 6 a.m. Saturday near the intersection of East 189th Street and Webster Avenue in Fordham Heights, police said, just a couple of blocks from the Fordham University campus.

The victim was waiting for a friend to pick her up near Fordham Plaza when the suspect allegedly attacked her.

Police on Tuesday released images of the man they believe grabbed her and then grabbed her by the neck before sexually assaulting her inside the garage. She tried to take her clothes off, but she couldn’t, and instead she forced her to perform a sexual act on him.

The suspect then ran off and headed south on Third Avenue, police said. He was last seen wearing an orange hoodie with dark blue jeans, and was described as approximately 5’2″ tall with a stocky build.

According to police sources, what worries many community residents is that people saw the attack but no one intervened, nor did they call 9-1-1.

The woman was taken to the hospital for injuries and is expected to recover.

A cash reward is offered for any information leading to an arrest.
