NEW YORK – Violence won’t stop in two neighboring Bronx neighborhoods. In a span of 24 hours, three shootings were reported in the East Crotona Park and Morrisania areas and two of the victims, a youth and a woman, are in hospital in critical condition.
The latest case in the Crotona Park East neighborhood happened shortly before 1 a.m. Friday between Jennings Street and Bryant Avenue when a suspect shot a 16-year-old boy once in the neck, New York City police said. The little man was transported to the hospital in critical condition, but is stable.
Here are the details.
Hours earlier, at 950 Jennings Street, a 20-year-old man was grazed with a bullet in the back after two suspects, dressed in black and masked, stole a building worker’s scooter and fired several shots. He was taken to hospital and is in stable condition.
In another case, which happened in the afternoon and in the Morrisania region, a woman was seriously injured after he was hit by a random bullet outside a grocery store in the Bronx, according to the New York City Police Department. The shooting happened shortly before 4:00 pm outside 1397 Franklin Avenue, near East 170th Street.
The victim, who has not been named, was identified as a 35-year-old woman. He suffered a gunshot wound to the shoulder. Emergency medical services pronounced the 35-year-old woman dead at the scene. However, she was found with a pulse when she was taken to St Barnabas Hospital. She remains hospitalized in critical condition, according to police.
The owner of the business near where the incident happened spoke to Telemundo 47 about what happened.
“I saw when they were running that the girl fell,” said Marina López, the owner of the business. “It looks like she was trying to get into my cellar, but she didn’t make it.
The police investigation determined that the woman was not the target of the shooting.
So far no one has been arrested in any of the cases.
