An organization that advocates for the needs of the city’s seniors will join elected officials this morning in the Bronx to call for improvements in services and an increase in the budget for seniors.
The LiveOn NY organization will accompany the Bronx County President, Vanessa Gibson, in this demonstration; city councilors Kristy Marmorato and Eric Dinowitz, as well as 16 senior service providers and a hundred senior citizens.
There are more than 300 senior centers in the city that, advocates say, are in urgent need of repair.
However, Mayor Adams’ latest budget cuts $7 million in funding for these centers.
On Monday, the City Council said it would invest $50 million to repair the city’s senior centers, 58 of which are in the Bronx.
Budget negotiations will continue until June.
