At the scene, an FDNY fire marshal commented that the fire was believed to have possibly originated at 1103 Castle Hill Avenue and spread to the 1101 building on the same street.

In that second building, the officer said, the roof began to cave in and there was a partial collapse, and they had to remove staff.

While no life-threatening injuries occurred, those injured at the scene suffered smoke and heat inhalation.

In total, the Red Cross is assisting six families with temporary emergency stays in hotels.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
