Vaccination against bronchiolitis begins in Extremadura next Tuesday, October 31. The aim is to protect 6,000 children, including babies under 6 months old, premature babies and children under 2 years old with health problems.
The vaccine will be administered to newborns in hospitals and to the rest in their doctor’s office. Last year there were 360 hospital admissions due to this respiratory virus.
The Board has made a centralized purchase worth 1.2 million euros to immunize 6,000 children. Respiratory syncytal virus causes bronchiolitis and other respiratory conditions. An information campaign begins this Friday. The drug protects for five months. It is a symptomatic treatment with more than 80% success.
Political groups have also spoken in the Assembly. From Vox they have applauded this measure while calling for vaccination to be expanded. The PSOE has criticized the delay in launching a vaccine that, they claim, should have already been dispensed.
