Broncan new CO coach, Reggiardo remains in the staff

The coach of the forwards of Castres Pierre-Henry Broncan is promoted to head coach, the current manager Mauricio Reggiardo being kept in the staff as “in charge of sports coordination and that of the coaching”, announced Tuesday the club, in great difficulties in Top 14 (13th).

David Darricarrère returns to the Tarn to train three-quarters and Joe Worsley is maintained as a defense coach, added the CO in a short press release released a week after a stinging defeat against Brive (25-24).

“I’m trying to explain what happened and we will have to find it by our next game,” Reggiardo said after the setback. The CO, which led 21-6 at the break before collapsing in the second half, occupies the penultimate place in the championship which forces at the end of the season a perilous play-off for the finalist of Pro D2.

The reorganized staff will try to create the feat on Saturday in Lyon (5th) for their first match.

The heavy task of filling the void Urios

Pierre-Henry Broncan, son of trainer Henry Broncan, nicknamed “the sorcerer of Gers”, like his father, managed many teams in the South-West (Blagnac, Auch, Aurillac, Colomiers, Tarbes) before joining the management from Ugo Mola in Toulouse (2015-2018). He had joined the CO in the summer of 2020 as forward coaches in place of Patrick Furet, who had asked to be released from his last year of contract.

Reggiardo had found Castres in 2019, after having played there for a decade (1996-2005) and having coached the forwards there twice in 2007 and 2015. He had the difficult task of succeeding Christophe Urios, who guided the CO towards a surprise title of champion of France in 2018.

Among the assistants, David Darricarrère replaces Stéphane Prosper, whose press release does not mention, as three-quarter coach, a position he already held at the CO between 2013 and 2015 under the direction of manager Matthias Rolland.
