Bromont Water Park Receives $5 Million in Financial Support for Expansion and Improvement

Passing through the Bromont, montagne d’experiences (BME) station in the morning, the Minister of Tourism, Caroline Proulx, as well as the MNA for Brome-Missisquoi, also Minister responsible for Sports, Recreation and the Outdoors, Isabelle Charest, confirmed this financial support.

The latter is part of the Assistance Program for the Recovery of the Tourism Industry (PARIT), launched in 2021 at the provincial level to counter the effects of the pandemic.

“We want to transform the water park for all customers, argued the president of the tourist resort, Charles Désourdy. We are a water park very focused on young families, but the activities that we are going to add in the Tarzan lake sector are high-sensation activities, for ages 10 and over.

A new basin will also be built for the Tarzan lake including two jumping platforms and the return of the famous “Tarzan rope”, let BME know.

The development work will be launched at the beginning of September. But fans of swimming and thrills will have to wait before discovering the new features of the water park.

The construction site will respect the ski resort’s operating schedule, so that the project should be completed in the summer of 2025, underlines Mr. Désourdy.

Increased ridership

In addition to the addition of new facilities, the investments will allow the construction of a sanitary services building, the installation of a new generation high-efficiency filtration system, as well as landscaping and access trails.

Ultimately, the water park aims to welcome 50,000 more visitors annually, underlines Charles Désourdy.

This work is part of the Altitude project, launched in 2018. This provided for an investment of $101 million, with financial assistance from governments.

“The major addition to the water park was not on the radar at all, however, says the big boss of the mountain. We can say that it is the Altitude plus project. We have reached almost $125 million (of investments). The hotel is also going to be a bit bigger (than expected). We are approaching the $140 million total. There were many more. Construction costs are also higher.

It will not only be the water park that will host a construction site next year. Construction of a hotel at the foot of the slopes will also kick off in the main parking lot.

“There will be activity here in the next two years, but we will make sure that it does not disturb the customers in any way,” said Charles Désourdy. There is exterior access to (the works in the sector) lake at Tarzan. Since it’s not in the center of the water park, that shouldn’t bother the clientele. And for the hotel, there are shuttles planned with the P4 (parking lot), summer and winter.”

Economical consequences

“The tourism industry energizes our region and we must continue our support for its development,” said MNA for Brome-Missisquoi, Isabelle Charest. (…) We must continue to innovate and improve our tourist offer by focusing on attractions, such as the Bromont water park, which will generate significant economic benefits and increase the attractiveness of our region.”

The Minister of Tourism, Caroline Proulx, for her part noted that the financial assistance announced is also in line with the “Mountain Plan”.

“The idea of the plan is that with climate change, the existence of which we can no longer deny, particularly this summer, it is to ensure that our tourism businesses, especially those with a vocation for skiing alpine, do not rely solely on skiing for their investments, she explains. (…) We must support these companies so that they have four-season development.”

According to the minister, American tourists are particularly in the sights of the Quebec government. To this end, a seduction operation will be carried out south of the border for the next winter season, says Caroline Proulx.

While the weather (and alarmist forecasts) have made life difficult for water parks this year, the minister invites Quebecers not to let the weather forecast stop them when planning their activities.

“I think that in Quebec, we are used to living with variations in temperature and weather all year round,” she says. Do not limit yourself and go outside. Vacations are short for Quebecers. Put your nose outside! As my mother used to say…” “We’re not made of chocolate,” adds Isabelle Charest, laughing.
