BP has had an impressive spring season as a newcomer to the Allsvenskan. After 13 rounds, the Stockholm club is in eighth place.
In the middle of the success, you can reinforce with a couple of big-name players. Expressen states that BP is working hard to bring in Albin Ekdal, whose contract with Spezia runs until 2024. At the same time, journalist Chriss Brikman has claimed that the club is looking for Sevilla’s Ludwig Augustinsson (contract until 2025).
– It’s really funny that such names are associated with us. They are super talented, says BP’s sports director Philip Berglund to Fotbollskanalen.
If we start with Albin Ekdal, what do you say about the data?
– It is quite natural that he is connected with us considering the history as a BP player (Ekdal was brought up in the club, ed. note) and so on. But he has probably done just as much with Djurgården. It is always the case somewhere that players who belong to other clubs become connected to the parent associations.
How current is it with a move to BP?
– No clue. He probably played 26-27 games in Serie A last year, so I have no idea.
How much have you and Albin talked about a move?
– I guess we haven’t talked about anything specific about it, other than that we have agreed on the situation for next year. You have to do the work, to check.
What indications have you received from him when you canceled a move to BP?
– Nothing special other than that he values his future right now.
Are you working on getting Albin Ekdal in?
– I am absolutely sure that Albin knows where we stand when it comes to getting him home to BP in the future. We are hugely proud of our players who are performing at a high level in Europe.
Ludwig Augustinsson has also been linked with a move to BP. How does it look there?
– There is no super concrete contact with any of those players, but it is of course important for us to maintain a contact. There is no more to one or the other.
How likely is it that Augustinsson will come and what has he said?
– You’ll probably have to ask “Ludde” about that in such cases. I do not know.
In which positions would you like to strengthen now?
– We have had two players out and five in. We’re pretty good at it. But the window is long.
Henrik Jurelius has been stated by Fotboll Sthlm to be available for a role within Brommapojkarna. He was most recently sports manager at AIK between spring 2020 and November 2022. Berglund handles the tasks:
– You always look at how we should move forward sportingly and organizationally. He’s a guy I recognize and stuff. I’m not that damn involved in those things, more than he left AIK and is a Stockholm guy.
Will he step into a role?
– I really do not know.
