Broken pipe floods the streets of Long Island City

Residents of Long Island City in Queens woke up with the streets of their neighborhood flooded.

A water leak caused a significant accumulation in the area between Vernon Boulevard and 41st Road, near the Queensbridge Houses public housing complex.

It is not the first time that these floods have happened.

Residents of the area say something similar happened in January of last year.

The water exceeded half of several cars parked on the street. Despite this, the MTA confirmed that bus and train service at the nearby subway station were not affected.

At this time it is unknown what caused the leak.

The city’s emergency management service has warned residents of the sector that it has cut off the water supply to stop the leak.

Nearly 450 homes are without potable water service while operations continue.
