Broch returns to selection of handball players after years of absence | NOW

Yvette Broch has been included in the selection of the Dutch handball players for next month’s three-country tournament in Croatia. It is the first time in years that the 118-time international is part of Orange.

Thirty-year-old Broch put an end to her career in August 2018, because she was mentally and physically exhausted and therefore no longer saw fit to practice top sport. At the beginning of this year she made her return to the French Metz and not much later it was announced that Broch is also available for the Netherlands again.

The circle player, who belonged to the world top before she decided to retire, was still missing from the selection of the handball players for the exhibition games against Slovenia this month. National coach Emmanuel Mayonnade, who is also a trainer at Metz, thinks Broch is now ready for a return.

Broch’s upcoming return is a boost for Mayonnade. The born Westlandse won two World Cup medals with Orange (silver in 2015 and bronze in 2017) and silver at the European Championship in 2016. She was also part of the Olympic team that finished fourth in 2016.

As a club, Broch is working on her second period at Metz, where she was also under contract between 2011 and 2015. Between 2015 and 2018 she wore the Györi shirt. She won the Champions League twice with the Hungarian top club.

Yvette Broch is back in Orange for the first time in 2.5 years.
